Jean Young
Jean is a "Rhode Island Transplant" as she calls herself. Originally from Massachusetts, Jean came to the Newport area for her education and found her career. Jean started CrossFit in 2011 and has never looked back. She was an active 3-sport high school athlete and triathlete competitor throughout college. She found CrossFit and loved the high intensity, competitive nature that it brought out. She received her CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certification in 2013 and her CrossFit Level 2 Trainer Certification in September 2017. According to Jean, "CrossFit develops more than physical strength, it challenges people to be mentally strong; it prepares them for life."
She opened the doors to One Asterisk CrossFit in April 2017 with the goal to inspire others to live fitter, healthier, more active lifestyles.

Phil Tutino
Phil began his CrossFit journey in 2013 when he was brought to the box by a friend. This was his first experience with any kind of fitness program, and he was extremely hesitant. CrossFit completely changed his life. He quickly developed a love for the sport and really enjoyed the community aspect of it. Phil became a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer in 2015, and recently became a Level 2 CrossFit Trainer in September 2017. Phil enjoys competing in the CrossFit Open each year, as well as local competitions. Outside of the gym, he is a 1st Grade Teacher. Phil has always loved working with others, and teaching is his passion. Sharing his excitement for CrossFit with others seemed like a no brainer to him!

Jimmy Garrison
Jimmy has been involved with sports since a young age. Growing up he played Baseball, Basketball, Lacrosse, and Football which he briefly competed at the collegiate level. After he hung up his cleats, Jimmy continued to look for ways to compete and push himself to be better. Jimmy was introduced to CrossFit by a friend who wanted someone to try a class with them. Admittingly, he was a nay-sayer of CrossFit prior to drinking the cool-aid. His first work out was “Annie” on December 6, 2013 and he hasn’t looked back since…
Jimmy received my CF-L1 and began coaching in May of 2014. For Jimmy, "the joy of coaching is helping athletes believe in themselves and work towards achieving things they never thought they could do. There is nothing better than the look on someone’s face after a huge PR or their first muscle up!"

Claire Akin
After seeing a video about CrossFit in 2013, Claire knew she had to give it a try. Starting out in the weight room of her university athletic center, Claire picked up a barbell and just went for it. With a background as a competitive cheerleader, the mix of heavy lifting and gymnastics was right up her alley. In the summer of 2014, she walked in an affiliate quickly learned that the community was the secret to success with this sport. Upon moving back to Aquidneck Island after graduation, she began competing in CrossFit and USAPL, to which she now holds several RI powerlifting records. When she’s not at the gym, Claire works for a local marketing and event management firm producing road races and beer festivals. She obtained her CrossFit Level 1 in February 2018.

TJ Roney
TJ began his career as an athlete at a young age. He participated competitively in multiple sports up through high school, finally settling on lacrosse moving into college. Completing his collegiate career as a National Champion in 2011, he set his sights on professional sailboat racing. During that time TJ also began working as a personal trainer. With the dynamic fitness demands of his career he began looking for a more challenging and competitive way to train himself. TJ found CrossFit in 2017 and was immediately hooked by the ever-changing workout style, encouraging community, and continued challenges. He competes regularly and is always pushing his knowledge to the next level. In addition to CrossFit, TJ works in the sailing industry as well as a remote strength and conditioning coach.

Pam Wallace
Pam started her CrossFit journey in March 2017 at CrossFit Malibu. She grew up swimming & dancing competitively and was a college cheerleader at Duke. While always staying active with yoga, hiking, boxing, etc, she felt her fitness & nutrition routine needed something different as she entered her 40’s. She thoroughly researched CrossFit & finally made the leap after a couple of close friends highly recommended it.
For the past 3.5 years, she has worked out consistently at CrossFit Malibu & here at One Asterisk Crossfit; & if you give her a minute, she will tell you how CrossFit has changed her life. So much so that while achieving her CrossFit Level 1 Certification in March 2019, she decided to make coaching CrossFit a career choice! Pam LOVES that CrossFit is scalable & meets people at their current fitness level AND the “constantly varied” nature of the workouts AND she digs the community!
