NAME: "AG" - ALLAN GARCIA

AGE: 51

LENGTH OF TIME AT CROSSFIT?   7.5 Months

WHEN DID YOU START AT 1*CF? May 12th, 2017

DID YOU HAVE ANY CROSSFIT EXPERIENCE PRIOR TO JOINING 1*CF?

NEVER, I was misinformed, thought it was dangerous and much too difficult.
It took Jean 2 years to convince me to try it.

HAS YOUR LEVEL OF FITNESS OR HEALTH CHANGED SINCE STARTING?

I have dropped 37lbs since starting in May. I was winded after one burpee when I started.   I have obstructive sleep apnea and can now sleep without a CPAP most nights if I choose because of the weight loss. My blood pressure and heart rate are near perfect for my age range. I have never in my life possessed the combination of strength and aerobic/anaerobic endurance that I have now, and that includes any and all of the physical training regimens I performed while being in my military and law enforcement careers (Army Paratrooper, SWAT officer, Police Academy Instructor, etc.) My mobility has increased tremendously.  I have had ACL reconstruction, meniscus cartilage tear repairs, and arthritis in my knees, due to prior life experiences and CrossFit has been the remedy to strengthen the joints and promote stability.  I attend 3-4 workouts a week and now hold my own; I've competed in two local CrossFIt Competitions and stood on the winners podium both times!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVEMENT/WORKOUT?

Anything NOT involving snatches or thrusters.

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE MOVEMENT/WORKOUT?

Anything involving snatches or thrusters.

WHAT IS YOUR WHY?

I am a single parent of a teenaged son with significant intellectual, physical, and health challenges. As his caregiver, I provide for him through every facet of his daily life. I am responsible for everything. I need to physically be the best version of myself to care for him properly. I cannot fail him, it’s just that simple.  I am also the Coordinator of Safety and Security / Truancy and Residency Officer for a K-12 public school system, and a sworn reserve police officer on two police departments. My need to physically be an asset, and not a liability, is very important to fulfill those roles at a high level should the need arise. Overall life quality is a great fringe benefit of CrossFit too, the “we not me” community is great, and being able to work out and improve amongst a good group of positive and enthusiastic athletes makes it so much easier to exercise. I am hoping to keep Crossfitting for a long time. All of this for a 3 to 4 hour investment each week makes it a no brainer for me!
